Parkinson’s is a movement disorder resulting in tremors, rigid muscles, impeded balance or posture, and slowness of movement. It occurs when dopamine-producing cells in the brain break down. Age plays a pivotal role in Parkinson’s disease. Although there are a number of risk factors such as genetics, biological sex, and environmental factors, age is the biggest risk factor for developing Parkinson’s disease. In fact, most people diagnosed with the condition are aged 60 or older.

The Science
The use of stem cell therapy for frailty of aging is supported by international research. One important study was performed at the University of Miami using allogeneic mesenchymal stem cells (allo-hMSCs). These are donated stem cells with the ability to specifically target areas of injury or disease. Once at the targeted area, they release bioactive substances with the ability to modulate the immune response and promote the regeneration of tissue.
To put it more simply, MSCs function as specialized factories in the body that produce therapeutic substances. These substances produce medicinal properties right where they are needed.
As the team from the University of Miami found:
ntravenous allo-hMSCs were safe in individuals with aging frailty. Treated groups had remarkable improvements in physical performance measures and inflammatory biomarkers, both of which characterize the frailty syndrome. Given the excellent safety and efficacy profiles demonstrated in this study, larger clinical trials are warranted to establish the efficacy of hMSCs in this multisystem disorder.
Research has also shown the benefit of stem cell therapy during the aging process. According to the University of Foggia in Italy, several animal studies (in mice) have demonstrated the rejuvenation effects of growth differentiation factor 11 (GDF11), which is produced by hUCT-MSCs. These results include benefits like:
- Thickening of the heart muscle

- Increased volume of blood vessels
- Growth and development of nervous tissue
- Increased endurance
